The retrospective exhibition is part of the Arts Council’s Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship. This exhibition runs June 3 through July 21, featuring two 第一个 Friday receptions on June 3 and July 1 from 6-9 p.m.

This fellowship allows central Indiana artists and arts administrators the chance to seek renewal in ways that are unique to them and their work. It is up to each fellow to decide what renewal looks like.

“This is an opportunity for artists and arts administrators to take time off to be renewed. They don’t need to worry about work, creating, or the office. They simply need to focus on themselves. When the fellows have this space, they then continue making amazing things happen in Indianapolis,” said Ernest Disney-Britton, Vice President of Community Investment & 影响.

A key goal of the fellowship is to keep artists and administrators living in and engaged with Indianapolis and Central Indiana. More than 470 grants have been distributed since this program began in 1999.

“The process of renewal changes your brain. It’s so different from your normal state,” said Mirvia Eckert, a painter and 2020-2021 fellow who studied the Bomba dance and 音乐 to find renewal.

“This fellowship and renewal made me more confident in myself and in my work. This made me push myself. It’s been huge for me,” continued Eckert, who has since founded the Indy Latina Artistsgroup for artists to grow and connect.
